OVERVIEW

A living island with a vibrant population of local residents, Ischia is reached in an 1.5 hour ferry or 1-hour hydrofoil journey from Naples. A 30-minute drive takes you to Sant’Angelo, a bustling fishing village on the southern coast of Ischia with shops, restaurants and the picturesque backdrop of an islet and the pristine waters of the Gulf of Naples.

The resort is hidden within lush gardens filled with Mediterranean maquis, aromatic herbs, olive and citrus trees. Shared guest facilities include a restaurant where breakfast is served (it is also open for lunch and dinner), a tennis court, a thermal pool among olive trees and a private beach with sun beds accessed via 140 steps (or by car for guests with reduced availability).

Built into the cliffside and integrated into nature, each villa offers excellent privacy and expansive views over the sea and Sant’Angelo. The private terraces have shaded living and dining areas, outdoor showers and some have Jacuzzis. The bright interiors feature modern elegance and include beautiful tiles, designer furnishings and top appliances. As the villas are well equipped, they are also well suited for off season stays.

In addition to the onsite amenities, guests are welcome to spend the day at the resort’s sister hotel, found a 20-minute drive away and with a spa, indoor and outdoor pool. Things to do
  • Sant’Angelo is a little fishing village, blessed with the most beautiful setting. A huge rock, a little like the one at Ischia Ponte, is connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway with beaches on both sides and crystal-clear water. The streets are so narrow that the entire village is car-free, giving it one of the most relaxing atmospheres you’ll find on an already laid-back island.
  • Chiaia di Rose Beach is the beach that sits in the centre of the village of Sant’Angelo. It occupies the space that links the land to the huge rock just over the water. The beach is split into two sections, one side is free and on the other you can pay for parasols and sun-loungers. The most popular side is the private beach as it faces towards the sun for most of the day and also has some great snorkelling areas as well as the possibility of hiring canoes or pedaloes. To find the beach, simply head towards the centre of the village and you will see it just in front of the main square.
  • Just a short walk away from the village of Sant’Angelo, Le Fumarole Beach is famous for its fumaroles. The fumaroles are hot vapours caused by the underground volcanic activity that heat the sand of the beach to various temperatures.
  • Cava Grado Beach can be found just outside the picturesque fishing-village of Sant’Angelo. Despite being fairly small in size, the beach is one of the most welcoming, set in a pretty little bay with great views of Sant’Angelo just a short distance away. The water at the beach is crystal-clear and great for either swimming or snorkelling by exploring the rocks and caves dotted around the small bay. At the back of the beach is a small restaurant where you can also hire beach facilties such as beds or parasols.
  • Maronti beach, near Sant’Angelo, is one of the island’s most popular, together with Spiaggia dei Pescatori (Fisherman’s Beach) in Ischia Ponte, and the beach in San Montano. There are beaches in or near most of the seaside villages and towns on the island, including Forio, Lacco Ameno and Casamicciola Terme
  • Explore Ischia’s most beautiful beaches with a kayak. Paddle for about 1 km along the south coast of the island, between the bays of Sgarrupata and San Pancrazio and enjoy a dip and a swim in clear waters with your new companions.
  • Ischia Ponte and Castello Aragonese. Looking out from the ramparts of Castello Aragonese over the town of Ischia Ponte is a must-do when you visit Ischia. Castello Aragonese is dramatically located on a small, rocky island, linked to Ischia Ponte by a narrow bridge. It towers over the town, looking both menacing and picturesque. Things to see at Castello Aragonese include chapels, cemetery of the Poor Clares, the wine presses, a prison and of course, those stunning views.
  • Thermal springs. Ischia is a volcanic island and boasts over a hundred thermal springs with water that’s reputed to have therapeutic benefits. You can visit the Terme di Cavascura and bathe where the ancient Romans did, or you can visit Sorgeto beach and relax for free in thermal springs that bubble up in the sea. There are also water parks like the garden-like Negombo thermal baths and the Poseidon thermal park.
  • Ischia porto boasts the island’s main shopping street, the charming Corso Vittoria Colonna, and it’s a lovely place for a stroll, a drink, some dinner and perhaps a gelato on a warm summer evening.
  • Chiesa del soccorso in Forio. Perched dramatically on the cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea, this bright white church has ancient origins and is a cherished symbol of protection on the island. Chiesa del soccorso is also one of the most popular sunset spots in Ischia
  • Hike Mount Epomeo. This is one of the most popular trails leading up the island’s highest mountain, Mount Epomeo. The climb up to the top of Mount Epomeo is strenuous, but if you put in the effort you’ll Ischia is popular with walkers and has many beautiful hiking trails. be rewarded with stunning views.
  • Visit world-leading gardens In Ischia you’ll find two world-famous botanical gardens. Giardini La Mortellais the most famous and is one of the most beautiful gardens in Italy. It’s built into a volcanic cliff face near Forio and is partly humid and subtropical in the lower area, and Mediterranean on the upper levels. Ischia’s other famous garden is the Ravino Gardens. At Ravino you’ll find one of the largest collections of cacti and other succulents in Europe in a magical setting. Don’t forget to visit the café for a cactus cocktail!
  • Day trips
  • The nearest island to Ischia is the much smaller island of Procida.  Once you’ve arrived, take a walk across to the opposite side of the island and Marina Corricella. Ice cream-coloured fishermen’s houses tumble down the steep cliff to the working harbour below, watched over by a medieval fortress. The journey from Ischia to Procida takes about 20 minutes.
  • Ischia’s glitzy sister island is an hour away by hydrofoil. When you go to Capri, don’t miss the chair lift up to the top of Monte Solaro – the views are to die for.
